WhatsApp for Android to allow Users to Edit Contact Details Without Leaving the App

WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Meta, is constantly adding new features to enhance the user experience. WhatsApp is rumored to be introducing a new feature that will assist in storing contact information, following rumors of a new user interface for the Android app. The feature has reportedly been discovered in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, and it may eventually make its way into the stable release. Once implemented, users will be able to save contacts within WhatsApp.

According to a report by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that enables users to save contact information directly on their device from within the app. Supposedly, a new user interface will appear when users select the New Contact option. Users will now see a UI similar to that of the Google Contacts app when saving new contact information, according to the report.

In addition to the name and phone number, users will reportedly be able to include additional information such as birthdays, email addresses, and more. According to the report, the user will have the option to save the contact either locally on the device or on the Google account associated with the device. This feature could eradicate the need to exit WhatsApp and open the Contacts app in order to save a new contact.

According to reports, WhatsApp is testing the feature on beta versions of WhatsApp for Android 2.23.8.2, 2.23.8.4, 2.23.8.5, and 2.23.8.6. The iOS version already has this feature, while the Android version still lacks it.

Reportedly, WhatsApp for Android is also testing a new navigation bar user interface. The user interface is said to be comparable to the iOS version. The iOS app places the navigation bar at the bottom, whereas Android has always placed it at the top. Users of WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.4 should be able to see the new user interface.
